From President George Washington’s Farewell Address, referring to political parties:
“However combinations or associations of the above description (of political parties) may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”
Those Colonial graduates sure knew how to use the English language, and predict the possible dangers inherent in our political system…..

I just wish that at least one of today’s political parties could offer a candidate who would be close to Washington in patriotism, integrity, competence and grace. This year’s elections are so disappointing and disturbing. I’ve always been an independent who has voted for whichever candidate I believed would be best for the country, regardless of party affiliation. This year, the two major parties have left us with no viable choice. Although I hate to cast a vote for someone who has no realistic chance of being elected, I’m thinking that my only reasonable choice is the Libertarian Party’s candidate, Gary Johnson. If you have a chance, watch him on CNN tonight @ 9:00. I’d be interested in hearing what you think of him.
